Golf or Snooker – Which is More Difficult?

On the technical side – both sports rely very much on correct body alignment to start with. Then you have the action itself, a good back swing on plain and a correct through swing on plain. You only need to be out ever so slightly in either of the above to miss the intended target by some considerable distance.

Look at the variables of playing golf outdoors in all different climates – snooker in a hall doesn’t quite meet those challenges. However, snooker players would challenge that different tables in different halls can be so different it’s very difficult to adapt. Pocket sizes, cloth speeds, space around the table, are all variables which can affect performance at snooker.

Lastly, there’s the mental aspects of both sports. This was the main reasoning behind Dennis Taylor’s outcome of snooker being more difficult. At snooker if you miss then it’s likely you will have to sit in the seat for a considerable time before your next shot if your opponent is on a break. This is when the mental demons come in and you can lose confidence and run through your mind that last missed shot which has made you sit in the seat for so long. Golfers on the other hand have little time to worry about their bad shot as very soon they will need to concentrate on their next shot.
