Stephen Maguire Wins Six Reds

Stephen Maguire edged out Ricky Walden 8-7 in the final to win the SangSom Six Red World Championship in Bangkok.

In an exciting final, Walden, who won this title in 2008, looked on control when he led 6-3, but Glasgow’s Maguire kept his hopes alive by winning the next two frames. Chester’s Walden moved to the brink of victory at 7-5, only for world number 13 Maguire to take the last three frames to win the trophy.

It’s 33-year-old Maguire’s first title since the 2013 Welsh Open and he banks 2.5 million Thai Baht (around £48,000), while Walden won 1 million Baht. Both players now fly to China for the Shanghai Masters world ranking event, which starts on Monday
