What a Night, What a Party, What a Shootout!!!!

Did you want drama?? What excitement we had at the shootout this past weekend.  Two great competitors met in the final, Milad Shojaei and Mehran Maneshgar.  So great that during the 10 minute frame these two players battle to a 42-42 tie at the end of the time limit.  Forcing us to go into a blue off the spot tie breaker for the championships.  Mehran was put in first and unfortunately missed his pot in the top right corner pocket.  It was Milad’s turn.  Sink the blue and he wins the title.  If he misses we continue and Mehran would breathe a sigh of relief.  Intense by all the spectators as Shojaei feathers his cue.  He strikes the cue ball into the blue ball.  The blue rolls towards the top left pocket.  As clean as a shot comes, the blue ball finds the bottom of the pocket with no assistance from the jaws and Milad lifts his hands in jubilation with the victory!!!

Elsewhere in the tournament it was young 10 year old Hriyan Dassani turning heads.  The youngster was potting everything in sight and knocked out the 2018 shootout champion Ray Sznadel to get into the quarterfinals.  Dassani was up against a tough opponent in Tsundu Sangpo.  These two went down to a blue ball shootout to see who would head to the semi finals.  Both players missed their first attempts, and Tsundu faltered on his second try, giving young Hriyan the chance.  A hole in the roof had formed in Top 147 as father Vinit Dassani jumped so high in excitement as his youngest son made the blue and went onto the semi final.  As well another young player Margo Lisovenko made it all the way to the semi finals too.  The future is looking bright for snooker in the community and it is continuing to grow.

Big thanks to Jonathan Sun and the crew at Top 147 that helped us have a great tournament.  In addition, much gratitude to Rob Johnson and the crew at AAA Photography with creating the poster to get the word out to everyone about the tournament.  Thanks to Sam Tonning for his help behind the scenes.  Ken Gammer, thank you for your audio services.  Our referees Gary Wallace, Peter Singh, Anton Fediushyn, and Hanna Lisovenko, thank you very much.  Thanks to Anton Fediushyn, Duncan Banks and Vinit Dassani for their scorekeeping abilities.  Thanks to Vinit Dassani, Rick Marshall and referee Anton Fediushyn for keeping the tournament going when we experienced a little bit of technical issues.  Thanks to all the players that showed up and gave it their best.

A few notes from the evening, this is a fun night and some great people are stepping up to help out behind the scenes.  Let’s support each other and help each other do a better job.  Let’s not get too bent out of shape if any error happens as the shootout can be fast and furious and we need both players on and off the table to make it a success.  As well we put in a lot of time creating these events and we respect the players by letting them know when their first match is scheduled so there isn’t a lot of waiting around.  We would appreciate it if you honour this philosophy and not arrive late to your match as it shows a sign of disrespect to the organizers.  These are small notes that can be corrected, so we can create a fun and vibrant snooker community.
